In the early 1900s the place was once recognizable from the thick groves of Tipolo trees (Artocarpus bancoi) that once lorded over this area with their tall tops and huge trunks. Under these trees was the old railway which today is Mandaue City.
Briones Street or the highway. Amidst these woods was a spring that flowed into the sea. The people were attracted to this spring – to bathe or relax. They brought their laundry there for the freshness of its water, or simply gathered there.
Under this last living stand, people still met up and the lovers dated, but its days, too, were numbered. And after 25 years since its old companions were felled, it, too, got axed. It is sad that there are no tipolo trees in Tipolo today.
Mandaue City is a city in the province of Cebu in the Philippines.
Therefore, It is one of the three urbanized cities on the island and forms a part of the Cebu Metropolitan area. However, Mandaue City is in the middle eastern coastal region of Cebu. Bordering to its right-side is Mactan Island where Lapu-Lapu City is.
In addition, Mandaue was a semi-autonomous functioning town. Semi-autonomous as it was still under the jurisdiction of Cebu. Above all, it has been developed and organized by the Spaniards throughout the ages.
Therefore, its population increased as the years went by, the Spaniards did not take the initiative to elevate the town into an independent municipality. The city is the 6th smallest government unit in terms of land area; among the Metro Cebu local government units the city is the second smallest next to the municipality of Cordova in the island of Mactan.
The city’s land area is only 4.5% of the total land area of Metro Cebu and less than 1% of the total land of the province of Cebu.
Many of the areas of the city are extremely flat. About 77.37% is within the 0-8% slope category. Barangays belonging to this region are Centro, Looc, South Special Administrative Zone, Cambaro, Opao, Umapad, Paknaan, Alang-alang, Tipolo, Ibabao, Guizo, Subangdaku, Mantuyong, Maguikay and Tabok.
Above all, It is home to some of the world’s biggest companies such as San Miguel Corp., Coca-Cola Bottling Corp., and Shemberg, the number one exporter of carrageenan.
